As part of the Cleaning and Support Services Association’s (CSSA) Clean Start Initiative, we were proud to take part in a special primary school presentation aimed at reimagining the cleaning industry for young people.
Our Operations Director, Jay Adderley, joined a panel of industry representatives to deliver an interactive and thought-provoking session that explored the science, technology and global impact of the modern cleaning sector. Jay was joined by Daniel Cross from Tennant Company and Heather Downes from Mitie Cleaning & Hygiene Services.
Together, the group delivered an engaging presentation that challenged perceptions and showcased cleaning as a skilled, innovative and rewarding career path. From discussing advanced robotic equipment and sustainability, to sharing stories from high-profile venues like Formula 1 circuits and stadiums, the session highlighted the scale, diversity and opportunity within the industry. Jay reflected on the impact of the session:
“Watching students shift from ‘cleaning isn’t for me’ to ‘wow, I never knew this existed’ is exactly why the Clean Start Initiative matters. We showed them the power of robots, the scale of cleaning at F1, and the global influence of professionals like Kelsey Hargreaves and The British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc). The future of our industry is brighter than ever.”
The Clean Start Initiative, led by CSSA, is designed to engage young people, raise awareness and build pride in the cleaning profession. By bringing professionals into schools, it aims to break down outdated stereotypes and inspire future talent.
We are committed to supporting initiatives that elevate the profile of our sector, encourage career pathways and nurture the next generation of cleaning professionals.
